29th September 2009 - The old blog retires! You can't fail to have
noticed that we've been getting slower and slower at updating this
page. That's because we've finally got a proper band page on
Facebook and are doing most of our communication through that.
Now we have a new widget that enables our Facebook posts to
be visible on this page so it's time to say goodbye to the oldstyle
html blog!
If you're not on Facebook you'll still be able to read all about the latest goings on in the band on this page but if you are on Facebook then you've got loads of ways that you can get in touch. Just click on the 'become a fan' button and away you go! Of course if you're having problems accessing any of this, just drop us an email and we'll try and sort you out. 30th August 2009 - Back in the swing Well
it has been a busy old week and with 4 gigs in the last 8 days Dan has
certainly had plenty of opportunity to get settled in. We
started
at The Mansion House in Bridgwater, always a good venue with plenty of
people up for dancing, and then the next night we found ourselves
outdoors playing on the back of a flatbed lorry at a birthday booking -
another full house.
The following weekend we were back in Somerset, this time performing at a wedding - a great night. That didn't finish until the early hours followed by a long drive home but back up on stage again by 3pm for our first ever daytime booking at the Double Locks in Exeter! Only one gig this coming weekend though, a wedding on Friday, which is just as well as we're all off to see Muse's homecoming gig in Teignmouth on Saturday! 19th July 2009 - Farewell Steve, Hello Dan We're
sorry to say that our legendary guitarist Steve will soon be leaving
the band to concentrate on non-music related projects. We're
sad
to see him go and
wish him all the best. His farewell gig will be on 1st August
at
The Vintage in Wellington which is always a cracking venue so get down
there if you can. After two and a half years
with the same line-up a change is always a bit of a
shock. Fortunately we've managed to secure the services of
one of
Devon's most exciting young guitarists in Dan Perks. Although
young enough to make even Richie feel old, Dan has a wealth of live
experience and is looking forward to getting out on the road with us.
Be sure to come along to see his debut at The Mansion House
in
Bridgwater on the 21st August.
15th June 2009 - Hundreds rock out to Indigo Charlie We'd
been telling you that our gig in Bradninch was going to be something
special and we were not wrong. A large crowd was expected for
this one but we were blown away by the level of support that we
received. We met some people who had traveled considerable
distances specifically to see us.It started off busy with people down and dancing from the very first song whilst many more sat up on the
hill overlooking the stage,
watching the sun set on the Devon hills. As
the night wore on the area in front of
the stage got more and more crowded until it was literally shoulder to
shoulder. They danced, they sang, they even moshed - it was
brilliant! In total there were more than 400 people there
making
a record crowd for the Castle. In fact we reckon the only
ones
having a better time than the punters were us! Even
celebrities
got in on the act as Grammy award-winning artist Joss Stone was spotted
in the crowd. We started at 9pm and were
still playing well past midnight. We tried to stop,
honest, but the crowd kept chanting for more and we just wanted to
carry on playing. We found people afterwards trying to get a
lift
home because they'd carried on listening to our extended set and missed
their buses and taxis - sorry folks! All in all it was a
simply
superb night and one that will be hard to top.29th May 2009 - We play top tunes, it's OFFICIAL One of our favourite radio stations Xfm
had a listener vote over the bank holiday to find the top 100 British songs.
As this is an indie rock station that plays loads of stuff
that
we like we were keen to see how our set list would compare with their
listeners choices. About half our songs are by British
artists
and an amazing 80% are in the top 100. To be honest we're
surprised it wasn't 100%!Anyway the top 100 list has given us some great ideas for new songs. Have a look at it and tell us which ones we should add. Having said that though the current batch of 3 new songs that we are adding are all American! 4th May 2009 - Something for the weekend Has it really been 2 months since we last updated the blog? We'll try harder in future... This bank holiday weekend has been a great one for the band with back to back gigs at what are fast becoming two of our favourite venues; The Castle in Bradninch and The Vintage in Wellington. The
Castle was our first open air gig of the summer(?), they're always a
good crowd and we like it when we get to play on a stage
anyway.
The place was full and, being outside, it meant that even the
smokers could join in!
Then
next night it was the Vintage and another outdoor gig (they have a
mini-Pyramid stage in the beer garden) but unfortunately we got moved
indoors because it was a bit too cold for many of the punters.
The last time we played here it was a really good gig but
only
about half full. Word about us has obviously spread because
this
time it was jammed (nothing to do with it being the Bank Holiday
weekend at all...). All we can say is what a great crowd!
They sang, they danced, they pogoed - brilliant.
We're back at The Castle in June and The Vintage in August and are really looking forward to both of them. 1st March 2009 - This season's must have accessory Those of you on the mailing
list or the Facebook group will remember that
we
had a little competition a while back to win one of the new Indigo
Charlie T-shirts. Well the winner was Richard from Exeter and
here is looking very fetching in his new apparel!22nd February 2009 - A Vintage performance We were going to write up
about our gig last night at the Vintage in Wellington but as someone
has kindly posted a review on the lemonrock site, we
thought we'd recycle it here:
"Wellington
rocks, at least it did on Saturday night when new to the Vintage,
Indigo Charlie performed.
We don't know who Clive
& Yvette are but we'd like to buy them both a pint!Lead singer Rich wowed the crowd with his amazing vocal talent and in my opinion is destined for the big time, so get to see him while you can. As well as vocal talent, a brilliant setlist was on offer with everything from The Beatles - Come Together, to The Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire and Arctic Monkeys - I bet you look good on the Dancefloor. Being a week before the monthly payday, the Vintage was a little quiet to start with but soon filled up with quite a decent crowd who didn't want to leave or let the band leave at the end. I'm finding it hard to believe that we haven't seen this band in the area before, but hopefully now their foot's in the door we'll be seeing a lot more of them. Finally remember the future may be bright: but it's not Orange - it's Indigo!" Clive & Yvette, Sun 22nd Feb 09 18th January 2009 - Back in the saddle After our month off in December it was great to be back out there last weekend and at a new venue, the Twyford in Tiverton. This is a well-known music pub so it's a bit of a surprise that it has taken so long for us to play there but we have some more gigs booked in now, right into 2010. It was good to see that so many people turned out specifically to see us and I know that the landlord was impressed that we managed to pull in so many on what would normally be a dead January weekend. If you were one of those who were there, thanks for your support. This week he found himself
providing the backing to non other than Chris Wolstenholme of Muse
fame! "It was
a privilege to play alongside such a talented and renowned musician"
said Chris...
Nige will be back slumming it with the rest of us next week! 1st December 2008 - 'tis the season A
combination of pubs closing (credit crunch and all that), holidays and
work commitments mean that for the first time since we started this
malarkey, we've got a month off!
However
2009 is already guaranteed to be our busiest yet. More gigs
than
ever before, more songs than ever and probably more fun too...
See you all in January! 9th November 2008 - Do The Strand So
last night saw us back in Exmouth for our first gig there since our
very first one way back in June 07. We were playing at The
Strand, a new pub for us, and one of the few late night watering holes
in the town. This meant that although we went on at our usual
time, we didn't come off stage until 12:30. It was great to
see
that some people had come out to Exmouth specifically to see us - we're
pleased that you got an extra value length set!
I think that in total we played about 40 songs - probably about twice as many as we played at that first Exmouth gig. Still the punters seemed to like it and the pub was pretty full by the end of the night and we left them all singing, which is always a good sign. Probably a good job then that we keep adding new material every month. In recent weeks we've added new songs by Kings of Leon, Muse, Radiohead, Fratellis, plus a stonkin' version of the old Cameo/Korn tune 'Word Up'. The great thing about having so many songs to choose from is that we never get bored, having to play the same songs every gig like some bands do. 19th October 2008 - Text Gig Alerts We've got a great new
feature. You can now get FREE text alerts whenever we add new
gigs.
15th September 2008 -
May the Force be with youJust text GIGS INDIGO to 82085 On Saturday we had the pleasure
of being the entertainment for the Ide
Charity Gala Dinner. A great evening which raised almost
£10,000 in aid of the Force Cancer
Charity and Hospiscare.
Of course we don't like to tak about all the work we do for
charidee mate...This was a seriously smart bash - DJs, posh frocks, the works - all in a big marquee. Steve even wore a tie (admittedly with a T-shirt though) but he doesn't normally do that unless he's in court! We did wonder how we were going to go down, after all Judi Spiers isn't normally our warm-up act... By the end of the first number the dancefloor was full and it stayed that way all night. Actually it wasn't full it was jammed, we didn't even have room to rock out! These guys were determined to have a good time and they certainly did. We were told that there was a strict midnight curfew but every time we tried to stop they wouldn't let us - it was nearer 1am by the time we finally finished! We really enjoyed playing to such a great crowd and playing our part in raising such an impressive total for a very good cause. 12th September 2008 - Village People We're
very fortunate to get the opportunity to play in so many different and
varied places but over the last year or so there's something that we've
come to notice - village gigs are awesome! Often the little
villages will only have bands on a few times a year so when they do the
whole village turns out and boy can they party...
Recent gigs in the neighbouring villages of Silverton and Bradninch have just gone to prove the point. People up and dancing during the soundcheck - now that's always a good sign! Dancing all night, singing all night, partying all night - just what we like to see. 5th August 2008 - Get yer quality merchandise 'ere! The
other day someone sent us an email asking if we had any band T-shirts.
It hadn't really occurred to us before but due to the power
of
this 'ere internet thingy, now we do! Just click on the Indigo Charlie Online Shopping Emporium
to find a couple of T-shirt designs. If you like it we might
add in a few other items too.
5th July 2008 - Press clipping from 'The Cornishman' newspaper The consensus is that there is something a bit 'Ron Jeremy' about Nigel in this photo... 10th June 2008 - Interview Uploaded For those of you who
weren't able to catch us live when we went into the Palm FM
studios for an hour long special last month, we've now managed to
upload the entire session onto the web site for you. To
access
the interview just click here.
We've also made the acoustic version of Under The Bridge available too on our sounds page. Plus we've update the whole sounds section so that it will stream for you rather than having to download the track (though you can still do that too). 9th June 2008 - We're all going on a summer holiday Well
we've finally come to the end of our manic run of constant gigging with
our first trip to the Bullers Arms in Brixham. Right on the
harbour-side this will be a great place to play in the summer.
It
was quiet as you'd expect for a Sunday night but we kept the locals
happy with a long set including some new numbers. Next time we
play there it will be a Saturday in August so we'll look forward to
that.
We're now going to take a few weeks break before coming back with some great gigs next month. Our first trip to Cornwall at the Lifeboat Inn in St Ives (another harbour venue - we should tour by yacht!), then the Parklife Festival and then our first visit to Exeter's newest, and already the best apparently, music venue - The Zephyr Bar. 25th May 2008 - Parklife 3 Festival (they love a bit of it) As
we exclusively revealed live on the radio last Friday we have been
selected to play at the Parklife 3 one-day festival in Tavistock on
Sunday 6th July. There are some great bands in the line-up so
we're well chuffed to be there. There
are a varied selection of music acts lined up for the main stage as
well as workshops,
stalls, circus performers and much more. It's a
really family friendly festival so put the date in your diary
and
come down
for a great day out.
Tickets are £5 for an individual or £15 for a group of 4. See www.taviparklife.co.uk for more details. 24th May 2008 - Indigo Charlie Interview on Palm FM Last night we went in to Palm FM
in Torquay for an hour long special. It's the first time that
we've done something like that and we had a great time.
Thanks to
Dom, the evening show presenter, and the rest of the Palm FM crew for
making us feel so welcome.
Thanks also to everyone from the mailing list and our Facebook group who tuned in to listen. We've had lots of positive feedback and even a booking as well. It seems that you liked the acoustic version of 'Under The Bridge' that we played. We haven't done anything acoustic before and we only knew about it 20 minutes beforehand so top marks to Richie, Steve and Ian for pulling it off without any rehearsal! If you didn't catch the broadcast then we should have it up on the web site in the next few days. 21st April 2008 - May Mayhem We
know it's been a couple of months since our last update but things have
been so hectic recently with gigs every weekend. When we
played
our first gig almost a year ago we never expected that we would get so
busy so quickly - so a big thanks to all of you for supporting us over
the past 12 months.
To celebrate one year of
Indigo Charlie we have our busiest ever month
planned for May with 7 gigs crammed in to just 4 weeks, so please come
along and help us celebrate our first anniversary. The gigs
nearest the actual date are at the Creek's
End Inn in Kingsbridge (which is always a great night out -
those guys just love a party!) and our first visit to Nick's local the Lamb
Inn in Silverton, which we're hoping is going to be a bit
special too.
After May we take a well
earned break for a few weeks whilst various
band members go off on holiday, to festivals, even do some proper work!
But we'll be back in July with some extra special gigs...
21st February 2008 - Indigo Charlie on Facebook People have been asking us
at gigs recently why we aren't on
Facebook. We didn't have any good reason why we shouldn't be
so now we are! Please click here to join our Facebook group.
28th January 2008 - Creek's End Inn We were curious how our
first gig at the Creeks End Inn
in Kingsbridge was going to go. Kingsbridge is a nice town,
the
Creeks End is a nice pub, they haven't really had a 'rock' band play
there before...
We needn't have worried.
In true Indigo Charlie style we went
straight at it from the first song to the last, well you'd expect
nothing less from us! The pub filled up and stayed full with
quite a young crowd in. They were dancing and singing and as
the
night wore on the place was just buzzing, in fact I think they were
having almost a good a time as we were!
Great pub in a fantastic
location with a top landlord. And the
good news if you missed us is that we're booked in for a few more gigs
there this year so keep an eye on our gig
list and put it in your diary.
18th November 2007 - Indigo Charlie For Sale! Have you ever wanted to own
Indigo Charlie? Well now you can. Just visit this web
site
and scroll down to the bottom. We were pleased to learn that
we
were "well handled, regularly wormed and vaccinated" but were more than
a little concerned that we had been gelded last month. Ouch! Many thanks to
one of the guys on our mailing list
for sending us this little snippet of info.
Although
you may not be able to buy the band, you could always do the next best
thing and hire us for your party or special occassion.
25th September 2007 - Need the latest gig info? We know how worried you are
that there might be an Indigo Charlie gig
in your home town and you're not the first to know. Well now
you
can find out as soon as a gig is announced (often before half the band
know about it!) by using the Gig Alert function on our favourite
listing site, Lemonrock.
Just go to lemonrock.com/indigocharlie
and click on 'Alert Me'
at the bottom of the page. You can then have alerts sent
direct
to your email or even your mobile - pretty nifty! You do need
to
register with lemonrock for this feature but no worries because it's
free.
We've got a lot of new bookings coming up so this is an ideal way to keep up to date. 29th August 2007 - And the award goes to... We've been made 'Artist of the Week' by lemonrock.com!! Okay, so we know it's not a Brit Award or anything but it's the first time anyone has given us anything (except maybe a free pint) so we're secretly quite chuffed about it. 15th August 2007 - Put The Needle On The Record We have finally, finally
got around to recording a couple of tracks for the web site.
It's
very much a 'home' recording but you never know, we might get into a
studio one of these days...
Please go over to our Sounds page and have a listen. Don't forget to let us know what you think! 2nd August 2007 - In the Summertime Well
it has finally stopped raining so that means that it must be
summer! Assorted band members are away on holiday throughout
August and September but the diary is already starting to fill up
nicely for the rest of the year with bookings in some new venues.
Check out the gigs page for details.
We're planning on making good use of the summer months though to add some more songs to our set. We've had a few requests at gigs and we've put in some suggestions of our own to come up with the list below. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts and help us to pick ten new songs from this list: 3rd July 2007 - Bowled Out We're sorry to say that our
upcoming gig at The
Bowling Green
has been cancelled. The pub will not be hosting bands through
the
summer but will be starting up again when the students return for the
autumn term. We know that lots of people have been waiting
for us
to play in Exeter so we're busy trying to get an alternative gig sorted
out.
2nd July 2007 - Monkey See, Monkey Do Last
night was the first night of the smoking ban so it was nice to get home
stinking of nothing more than sweat and beer (how appealing)!
It
was also our first night at The Brass Monkey
in Teignmouth. A warm welcome from landlords Bob and Jan and
an
enthusiastic welcome from the locals was a good way to kick off the
start of live music at this great little pub. I'm sure it
will
soon be a firm fixture on the local live circuit.
When you play a venue for the first time you hope that the management like what you do and invite you back at some point in the future. We must have done something right because were going back there again this Sunday! 17th June 2007 - Pant
Throwing in Exmouth
We've just played our first
gig in Exmouth at the Famous Old
Barrel.
This was a good venue and we even had the benefit of a stage
-
albeit only 6 inches high. The first set was well received but it was
after the break that things really got moving with some of the most
mental dancing that we've yet to witness!
Some
other firsts included our first travelling fans, although I suppose if
you lived in Basingstoke it wouldn't take much to get you down to
Devon... We also witnessed what we hope will be something of
an Indigo Charlie
trademark - pant
throwing.
Richie was the lucky recipient of pair of ladies smalls that
were
anything but! He thinks its because he's the youngest and
best
looking, the rest of us think it's just because he's at the front and
is easier to reach! So if you're coming to see us in the
future,
be sure to pack a spare pair...
All in all another good night and we'll definitely be back here again. 28th May 2007 - Singing in the Rain What
a night we had last night! Booked to play at a 40th birthday
party, we were all set for our first open-air gig. There was
a
sizeable marquee complete with heaters, lights, glitterball and smoke
machine - the poshest tent we've ever been in. Then there was
the
rain - gallons of the stuff, all night long. Not to worry
though,
the marquee held up and, with the additon of a few plastic sheets to
our usual gig rig, the show went ahead as planned.
The
dancing started with the first song and never let up. The
'dancefloor' slowly turned to mud but nobody cared. It was
like a
little bit of Glastonbury come to Exeter! We had a great
night
and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as did all the guests. We
don't
know how we managed to play for so long and so loud without any of the
neighbours phoning the police but we'd like to think that they were
enjoying it too!
23rd May 2007 - Up and Running A big thank you to everyone
who came down to The Yacht Club in
Teignmouth on Saturday to support us in our first performance.
It
was a nice little venue and it was good to see so many people enjoying
themselves. We were pleased with how it went and have been
very
flattered by the feedback we've received. We hope you'll come
back and see us regularly over the coming months and years.
We must have been doing
something right because we've already picked up
a couple of further bookings from people who were in the audience and
have had some positive reviews posted on the Lemonrock web site.
You can read
them here.
If you were at the gig and would like to write a review, click here. 13th May 2007 - The Final Countdown (no we don't play it!) Preparations for our debut
gig at The
Yacht Club, Teignmouth are well advanced. After
months of rehearsal and the hard slog of learning almost 30 of the best
rock and indie tracks we just want to get out there now and play.
This is a closed gig to a specially invited audience but if you talk to us nicely I'm sure one of the guys can slip you an invite. |
